Racism in the Form of Colorism

Updated: Apr 7, 2022

Black people are often regarded as having a lower social position and are classified as belonging to the lowest social strata, whereas the fair is regarded as noble and clever.

Whites, such as the Portuguese, Dutch, and French traders, the Mughals, and the British, have dominated our land in the past. They were more equitably treated than the rest of India's people. The white people's ascension left behind a strong desire to appear fair. As the master race, Indians believed that only those with light skin could acquire power, dignity, and respect. In our country, racial prejudice has assumed the shape of colorism. Colorism is defined as the distinction or classification of one individual from another based on their skin tone or complexion. Colorism is the practice of discriminating against members of the same race because of their dark skin color. Black people are often regarded as having a lower social position and are classified as belonging to the lowest social strata, whereas the fair is regarded as noble and clever. In our Indian civilization, a person's complexion is highly valued; fair people are seen to have beneficial effects, while dark people are thought to have negative effects. This is how the Indians' stereotyped mindsets work. The color black is now despised and reviled by people all across the world.
