Race can be described as the attributes and characteristics that distinguish one social group from the others. . In simple terms, races are biologically inherited physical characteristics that serve as a means of self-identification from other groups. Racism is the belief that one race is superior to another due to physical characteristics, caste, faith, ethnicity, or place of origin.
A person is racist if he expresses feelings of hatred, prejudice, discrimination, and intolerance toward another person purely because of his skin color, lip structure, language, place of origin, or any other biologically acquired characteristic. We live in a society where racism is pervasive, particularly in the Northeast. The people of the northeast face everyday humiliation and insults, such as being referred to as "Chinese." With the further dissemination of the COVID-19, there has been a rise in hate crimes directed at Northeast Asians because of their facial traits. The slur "Chinki" has been invariably used by Indians to label any East Asian individual, obviously demonstrating bigotry.
We live in a society where the color of one's skin is really important. Indians have a variety of skin tones, which are classified as fair, dusky, dark, and so on. Indians feel that fair-skinned people are far more valuable and beautiful than dark-skinned ones. The fair is regarded as intellectual and is accorded respect, dignity, and social standing, whilst the dark is left to struggle for their rights and status. We are confronted with color bias and prejudice because of our skin tone, yet we prefer to keep silent.
